Tuesday Night Song Doctor

Every Tuesday night 7-10 pm

Threadgill's Old No. 1, 6416 North Lamar Blvd. Austin, TX 78752

As a lyricist from ASG, Eddie Dunn is now co-writing with Ron Beer of Canada, who's songs are played on radio around the world. ... Eddie Dunn says:  "For me, ASG meant Tuesday night Song Doctor… helping me hone my craft as a lyricist while I learned at the feet of talented musicians, novices, and those in between how to say in three very short minutes what I hoped would touch the hearts of my audience. The feedback has been instrumental in  my efforts to grow as a lyricist striving to make every syllable count.  Every single word precisely expressing my thoughts… 'show it don't tell it'… paint the picture.  Lessons learned from those sharing their honest, forthright, and kind criticism.  I am deeply grateful to Lee and Rick and my music colleagues for sharing their thought and ever-so helpful feedback as I read my lyrics each Tuesday night.  And, over time I have become better… not as good as I someday hope to be… but better and maybe much better.   Perfecting my craft is an ongoing life experience, as I suspect it is for you."

The Tuesday Song Doctor Sessions is the longest running weekly event in ASG history, facilitated by ASG President, Rick Busby and/or Executive Director, Lee Duffy. In the past, it has been facilitated by many of Austin’s finest songwriters, including Sonny Throckmorton, Will Sexton, Marvin Dykhuis, David Halley and Bob Cheevers, among others. Songwriters bring in songs they have finished or are working on to share with the group and to receive constructive feedback from the Song Doctor on call for the evening, as well as the other songwriters in attendance. The feedback is intended to not only improve specific songs, but also to spotlight strategies that will enhance the crafting of songs in the future.

Over the course of one evening, the group will hear anywhere from 10-20 songs at various stages of development and each week’s discussion touches on so many aspects of songwriting that every session is like attending a master’s class in songwriting.

Everyone is welcome to attend and The Song Doctor Sessions are free to Basic members that signed up before Dec 1, 2014, and all Gold and Platinum patron members.  JOIN US NOW!!

If you wish to share one of your songs, bring along about a dozen or more copies of your lyric sheets to pass around to the group. You may also bring an instrument to accompany yourself, sing a Capella, or bring a CD to pop in the player. If you perform on piano, we have one set up in the room at The Mockingbird Cafe (our listening room).

Even if you do not have a song to share on a given week, you are still welcome to attend and participate in the conversations; so don’t let that stop you from getting involved.
